The ServiceWatch service is running in the background monitoring the services selected in the ServiceWatch Administration windows program. Besides selecting which services to monitor the administration program is where you configure what mailaddress to send notifications to, what to log in the eventlog etc., etc.

Why use ServiceWatch?

When using Microsoft Windows based servers it is a known fact that a variety of applications are depending on one or more windows services running in the background to function properly (i.e. Exchange Server and/or SQL Server). This means that if one or more of these background services stops running the application most likely will stop working. In most cases it is quite easy to make the application work again; simply restart the service that stopped running. But what if you don't know that the service has stopped running?

Do you remember how long time you used to figure out that this in fact was the problem the last time a service was down?

For instance; if a backup services stops - when will you know? Possible not until the day after ...

With ServiceWatch you can be notified if a service has stopped. You can monitor some or all services on a Microsoft Windows based server. You can specify how often you will check the status of the services, and you and/or a co-worker (or even an external consultant) can recieve an e-mail telling you if a service has stopped.
