Version 3 enhancements include the capability to poll a serial device for data or to send a start-up initialization communication. Serial data may be massaged or formatted for instance to insert additional characters or fields such as a date and time stamp or to remove control characters.

Serial Link also provides a test mode that simplifies debugging of communication problems.
