Shampoo your hair properly before a day you undertake this test. Take a tissue paper and press it on the center of the head and behind the ears. If you find traces of oil on the tissue paper then your hair is oily or else dry.
If your head is oily and ends are dry, you have a combination hair. If your hair is non-greasy and is shiny, then it is dry. It is very important to know your hair type before you go ahead with nourishing it.
Dry Hair:
Dry hair looks dull and has split ends, which are also dry. Dry hair could lead to dry and itchy head too. Dry hairs break off easily and are difficult to manage after a hair wash. In some cases dry skin flakes around the hairline is also present.
Causes of dry hair:
Hair contains 4 to 13% of water. Lack of sebum often causes dehydration of hair, thus resulting in dry hair. Due to reduced elasticity, this type of hair tends to Breakage and cause split ends.
Homemade treatment for extremely dry hair:
Use a mild shampoo and a cream conditioner suitable for your hair. Don't comb your hair if it is wet. If your hair is too dry, massage it with 2 tsp of Almond or olive oil. Do it minimum 30 minutes before head wash. Pour shampoo directly to your head after that and massage properly. Leave your hair to dry in open but not under Sunlight. Use only mild colors for your hair or you could better avoid that until condition improves.
Oily hair:
Oily hair is caused due to over secretion of oil. The scalp and hair gets too oily due to this condition. It looks greasy even after shampooing and attracts more dirt.
Homemade remedies for oily hair:
1. Dip large soft makeup brush in cornstarch and dust through oily spots in hair;
2. Allow to sit for five minutes then brush out with a natural boar bristle brush;
3. Repeat if necessary.
