Stock symbols are contained in Portfolio lists files to facilitate organization & selection. Portfolio lists can be created and edited easily using the commands on the Portfolios tab of the user interface. Just save the files in your ReturnsRetriever working directory.
Multiple portfolio lists can be used track many types of investment ideas. For example, you can have a list with the Dow Industrial stocks, S&P 500, a list containing your own holdings, a list of the Nasdaq 100 stocks, etc.
In addition to historical returns data being displayed and manipulated on the ReturnsRetriever interface, a copy of the most recently obtained returns data is also stored in a files named, "PortfolioName_data_rt1.txt" (data from the 1-wk 1-mo 3-mo 6-mo 1yr returns tab) or "PortfolioName_data_rt2.txt" (data from the Returns Between 2 dates tab), where "PortfolioName" refers to the name of the text file containing the list of stock symbols.
